How deep does a cabinet for a washing machine need to be?
A cabinet for a washing machine needs to be deep enough to hold the appliance safely and to give the connections enough room. Washtower® washing machine cabinets have a specific recess depth of 58.3 cm. Because the cabinet can also be placed about 5 cm from the wall, roughly 10 cm of extra room is created behind the machine for hoses, connections and optimal ventilation.
What to consider about depth
Several factors play a part in working out the right cabinet depth. That way you avoid hoses kinking or the machine vibrating against the front of the cabinet during use:
Appliance depth (freestanding machines): this is the depth of the washing machine itself. Do pay attention to the depth of the feet. Most standard washing machines fit perfectly within the recess dimensions of our cabinets.
Room for connections (at the back): behind the machine you need space for the water supply, the drain hose and the plug. This is taken care of by placing the cabinet slightly away from the wall.
Movement room at the front: during the spin cycle the machine moves slightly. The carefully calculated recess depth (and width) prevents vibrations from being passed straight on to the surrounding cabinet parts.
Positioning the cabinet: by installing the cabinet about 5 cm from the wall, roughly 10 cm of clearance is created at the back for all the cables and pipework you need.
Standard dimensions for comfort and safety
The fixed recess in Washtower® washing machine cabinets is 62.5 x 86.3 x 58.3 cm (width x height x depth). Thanks to these dimensions and the 5 cm of space in the cabinet behind the machine, there is not only enough room for the connections, but also excellent air circulation and easy access for any maintenance.

Practical tips for saving space
Would you like to make the most of the depth of your setup? Then keep the following points in mind:
Position the connections cleverly: taps and drains located directly behind the machine let you push the machine as far back into the recess as possible and place the cabinet flat against the wall.
Choose a modular setup: with a stacked washer and dryer you make the most of the height of your room without losing extra depth in the laundry room.
Combine with storage: add storage cabinets to your modular setup for a clean, continuous and space-saving cabinet wall.
Use the configurator: put together your ideal laundry room easily and see straight away how the fixed dimensions work in your situation.
Which setup suits your situation?
The floor space you need depends on the type of setup you choose. All our washing machine cabinets have the same recess depth, but offer different benefits:
A single washing machine cabinet: ideal for compact rooms, with the standard recess depth and plenty of ergonomic comfort, see the washing machine stands.
Dryer on the washing machine: this vertical tower setup saves valuable floor space and brings both appliances to a comfortable height.
Washer and dryer cabinet: place your washing machine and dryer neatly side by side for maximum ergonomics and a clear working surface, see washer and dryer cabinets.
A complete cabinet wall: combine your appliances with extra storage cabinets for a fully fitted utility room or laundry room.

Stability and construction
Washtower® washing machine cabinets are fitted with a sturdy, continuous base plate on which the washing machine rests steadily. This distinctive feature makes sure the machine stands firmly in the unit and not directly on the floor. Any vibrations during the spin cycle are directed straight downwards through our distinctive cabinet-in-cabinet construction. That gives quiet operation and stops appliances from walking.
On top of that, all our washing machine cabinets have an anti-tip device as standard for maximum safety, whether you choose a single module or a full stacked setup. The subtle space around the machine and the integrated ventilation grilles guarantee that heat and moisture can always escape properly.
