How much weight can a washing machine stand carry?
Most washing machine stands have a load capacity of around 100 to 120 kg. That is ample for standard washing machines, which weigh roughly 60 to 90 kg empty. Do bear in mind, though, that a stand also has to cope with the weight of water and wet laundry and with the dynamic forces during the spin cycle. So always choose a stand with a generous margin above the static weight of your machine. Make sure the stand has a certificate showing it has been tested at the stated weight.
What to consider when choosing a stand
Load capacity matters, but other factors determine whether a stand works well:
Dynamic loading: a machine on its spin cycle exerts far more force than a machine standing still. So always allow a generous margin above the weight of the machine, the water and the laundry.
Stability: make sure both the stand and the machine are perfectly level. Use the adjustable feet on the machine and the cabinet for this.
Vibration-absorbing construction: choose a stand that absorbs vibration rather than amplifying it. A sturdy unit solidly connected to the back wall or the floor stops the machine from walking.
Height and comfort: a good stand brings the drum to a comfortable working height of about 60 cm, so you have to bend less when loading and unloading.
Why a washing machine cabinet gives more certainty
The washing machine cabinets from Washtower® are tested and certified by TÜV Rheinland. They tested the cabinet extensively at a load capacity of 120 kg. That way you know for certain it is 100% safe. The machine stands steadily in the cabinet on a sturdy, continuous base plate that spreads the weight evenly. Any vibration is directed straight down through the distinctive cabinet-in-cabinet construction, which makes for stable, quiet operation.
This distinctive cabinet-in-cabinet construction offers further advantages:
An ergonomic working height: the drum comes to about 60 cm, so you can work comfortably without bending.
Safety: every cabinet has a built-in anti-tip device, including in a stacked washer and dryer setup.
Modular and expandable: combine the washing machine stand easily with storage cabinets for a complete laundry room solution.
Room for connections: the cabinet has 5 cm of space at the back as standard and can be placed about 5 cm further from the wall with the supplied wall brackets, leaving roughly 10 cm for hoses and cables.
Which setup suits your situation?
Depending on your laundry room and your wishes, there are several options:
Raising just a washing machine: choose a washing machine stand for the best comfort, safety and stability.
Washing machine and dryer side by side: use washer and dryer cabinets for a uniform, ergonomic setup.
Limited space: put the dryer on the washing machine in a tower setup, with the anti-tip device supplied as standard.
A complete laundry room: use the online configurator to put together your ideal cabinet wall with stands and storage cabinets.
Practical tips for maximum stability
Whichever stand you choose, these tips help minimise vibration and noise:
Level it: use a spirit level and adjust the feet of the cabinet until the machine is perfectly horizontal.
A firm floor: put the stand on a flat, hard floor. Avoid uneven or overly soft surfaces.
Check regularly: after a few washes, check whether the machine is still level and adjust the feet if needed.
Do not overload: respect the maximum load of your washing machine to prevent excessive imbalance and vibration.
