Can a washing machine and dryer go in a cabinet?

Yes, a washing machine and dryer fit very well in a cabinet. Washtower® washing machine cabinets are designed specifically to house both appliances safely and comfortably, with enough ventilation, stability and installation room for the connections. You can choose a compact setup with the dryer on top of the washing machine, or a setup with both appliances neatly side by side.

Why put a washing machine and dryer in a cabinet?

A modular cabinet for your washing machine and dryer offers concrete advantages you notice every day:

  • More comfort: you place both appliances at a comfortable working height of 60 cm, so you never have to bend deeply again when loading and unloading the drums.

  • Clever use of space: especially with the dryer on top of the washing machine, you save valuable floor space in smaller laundry rooms and utility rooms.

  • Absolute stability: any vibration is directed straight down through our distinctive cabinet-in-cabinet construction, which makes for quiet, calm operation.

  • Extra organised storage: you immediately create practical storage for all your detergent, towels and laundry.

  • Maximum safety: all Washtower® washing machine cabinets come with a built-in anti-tip device as standard for extra stability.

Which setups are possible?

You have two main options for placing a washing machine and dryer modularly in a cabinet wall:

Dryer on washing machine (tower)

  • Advantages: maximum space saving, a compact footprint, makes optimal use of the height of the room.

  • Suitable for: small laundry rooms, utility rooms, narrow recesses.

Side by side (double cabinet)

  • Advantages: both appliances at an ergonomic working height, everything in view and easy to reach.

  • Suitable for: roomier laundry spaces where optimal comfort and a continuous work surface come first.

With a stacked washer and dryer setup you place both appliances safely in a vertical tower. You level the complete cabinet perfectly with the robust adjustable feet, after which the machines are anchored steadily in their own recess. This setup is ideal if you have little floor space available.

If you choose a washer and dryer cabinet, both appliances stand neatly side by side raised to 60 cm. This offers the very highest comfort: you can work easily and ergonomically at both machines without having to bend.

What to consider when building appliances into a cabinet

Washtower® washing machine cabinets are designed with all the important aspects and safety requirements in mind:

  • Exact dimensions: the fixed internal recess measures 62.5 x 86.3 x 58.3 cm (WxHxD), in which virtually all standard washing machines and dryers fit perfectly. The external depth of the unit itself is 65 cm.

  • Room for connections: the cabinet has about 5 cm of space inside for connections and can be placed about 5 cm from the wall, leaving a good 10 cm of installation room at the back for the water supply, the drain hose and power cables.

  • Excellent ventilation: high-quality ventilation grilles are fitted as standard and provide constant, safe air circulation around the appliances.

  • Optimal vibration damping: the distinctive cabinet-in-cabinet construction with a continuous base plate makes sure all the forces during the spin cycle are directed straight into the floor.

  • Certified load capacity: our cabinets are TÜV certified and designed to carry the specific weight of the appliances (up to a maximum of 120 kg per module) with ease.

Which cabinet suits your situation?

The ideal modular choice depends entirely on the space available and your personal preference:

  • Limited floor space: choose a cabinet with the dryer on the washing machine, stacking vertically and making efficient use of the metres you have.

  • Enough width available: choose a washer and dryer cabinet with both appliances ergonomically side by side at working height.

  • Just a washing machine: a single washing machine stand brings your machine to a comfortable height and adds storage in the drawer underneath.

  • Designing a complete cabinet wall: combine your washing machine cabinets easily with tall modular storage cabinets for a fully fitted, streamlined utility room.

Practical tips for installation

When installing a washing machine and dryer in a cabinet, there are a few important points to watch:

  • Level it perfectly: use the robust adjustable feet of the unit to level the complete construction. Tip: always screw the machine's own feet in as far as possible (fully) for maximum stability within the recess.

  • Safe power supply: because a washing machine and a dryer together draw a lot of power, we advise connecting the appliances to two separate circuits.

  • A fixed position in the tower setup: in a vertical setup the washing machine is always in the bottom module, because of its heavy weight and the dynamic forces. The dryer is placed safely on top of it.
